Hobby, passion and motivation combined into one when Andrej Ivanov discovered photography. With a degree in psychology, a diploma in photography, and a certificate in Photoshop, Andrej tries to combine his knowledge and experience to create something new. His education has offered him the possibility to gain insight into people, enabled him to express his creativity, and impelled him to explore various forms of photography (from photojournalism to fashion photography).  A background in music also helped to fuel his passion for experimenting in art.

In early 2011, Andrej discovered that combining his passion for music and for photography was possible when he was offered the opportunity to photograph his first concert. While educating himself in psychology and photography, he began to crystallize his photojournalistic eye through a community-driven webzine, 33mag.com. It is with this webzine that he was able to find his calling while working on various assignments, writing articles, reviews and, most importantly photographing various happenings.

In 2012, he joined a Toronto-based webzine, The Scene Magazine, for which contributed as both a writer and a photographer. In 2013, he became the editor of the Montreal division of the webzine and continued to shoot and write for them while leading a team until 2015.

Even if Andrej started as a concert and event photographer, his interest in photojournalism grew after having realized that he preferred telling the stories and pursue the deeper meaning behind the photo, rather than a series of images. He decided to continue his education and get a second degree, this time in journalism. As a Concordia University (Montreal, Quebec) student, he joined The Concordian, one of two student newspaper. He worked as an assistant photo editor (2014-2015) and as a photo editor (2015-2016). His work brought him Canada-wide recognition when he won the Photo of the Year 2015 & 2016 awards at NASH, a journalism conference organized by the Canadian University Press. He also won Student Photojournalist of the Year at NASH 79, by the CUP.

Andrej currently lives in Toronto and is finishing his second degree at Ryerson School of Journalism. He is interning at the Toronto Star.
